Ethnographic research materials documenting fieldwork (1962, 1963-1964) at Umbi, New Britain Island and fieldwork (1967-1968, 1974) at Angelek, New Britain Island. Materials include fieldnotes and typescript transcriptions of fieldnotes; fieldnotes analyzed by subject; grant documentation; linguistic materials for Kaulong, especially dictionaries and grammars; genealogy notes; slides and photographs; and audiorecordings of song performances. Also included are manuscript drafts for published and unpublished writings, correspondence with colleagues, teaching materials and subject files.

American anthropologist and photographer, Goodale was born in 1926 and educated at Radcliffe College (B.A. 1948), Harvard University (M.A. 1951) and the University of Pennsylvania (Ph. D. 1959).
